#1007 Shared Unix Hosting - Advanced Notification of cPanel Downtime for Upgrades

We have now scheduled the upgrades for cPanels 5, 6, 7 and 8. Details of when the upgrade process will begin are as follows:

6am (BST) Tuesday, July 8 - cPanel 08
6am (BST) Tuesday, July 15 - cPanel 05
6am (BST) Friday, July 18 - cPanel 06
6am (BST) Tuesday, July 22 - cPanel 07

We anticipate each upgrade will take approximately 3 hours - however we are unable to guarantee they will be completed within this time frame.

Due to the change in MySQL, customers on these servers are advised to ensure their code is fully compliant with the requirements for MySQL 5.x. Further details on this and other major differences between the cPanel versions - and associated software - can be seen in the following Knowledge Base article:

http://www.zensupport.co.uk/KnowledgeBase/article.aspx?id=10889

We recommend that all customers on these cPanel servers consult this article to ensure they are prepared for the change as soon as possible.

Prior to the upgrades we are investigating the creation of php.ini files to minimise the impact on customers with modified .htaccess files. As part of this process customers may see files named htaccess.zen and php.ini.zen; if these files are present they must not be deleted as doing so could cause problems with a site following the upgrade.

To check which cPanel server your website is hosted on you can use the following checker:

#627 Shared Unix Hosting - C-Panel Shared Web Hosting Statement - Updated Friday, February 22, 2008

Dear customers,

Emergency work is now underway to migrate our cPanel services to the new storage area network. Due to the re-occurrence of a fault affecting the existing storage network, we have taken the decision to begin the migration process right away as this move, although slightly ahead of our planned upgrade schedule, will result in the best possible service in the shortest time. However, the work will mean extended outages for servers undergoing migration as the data transfer and re-configuration activities take place. Currently, cPanels 05 and 08 are offline and are undergoing the migration work. Please consult the service alert here http://status.zensupport.co.uk/index.php?serviceid=13&incidentid=870 for more detailed information.

The new storage area network (SAN) for cPanel is an entirely new platform designed and built from scratch in response to the outage period that affected cPanel customers in July last year. This new SAN, as well as being new infrastructure using components assembled from more dependable vendors, also offers a number of key technical design benefits:

Improved data throughput - up to 4Gbps theoretical throughput, compared to 1Gbps theoretical throughput on the existing system - a 4 fold improvement

Resilient network connectivity with dual path network links and two independent switched network fabrics to the disk storage arrays from the cPanel servers

More resilient disk arrays utilising RAID1+0 disk arrays, as opposed to RAID5 arrays on the existing system. This provides faster disk performance and enhanced reliability for customer data

I would like to extend my sincere apologies to customers for the inconvenience already caused by this work and the further outages it will necessitate.
